School Life

ELEMENTARY

At Deer Lake School we are passionate about children! Our commitment to child-centred education leads us to adapt and change our educational offerings as society demands.

We use the inquiry-based model for learning in our classrooms K-12. Our teachers strive to provide individualized learning in every grade.

We believe that children flourish when they spend time outdoors in the fresh air. Beginning in kindergarten and right through to Grade 12 we spend a lot of time outside, learning about life through nature, gardening and various outdoor pursuits.

We have adopted the STEAM approach to science, technology, engineering, art, and math which foster critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.

Our school offers a wide variety of after school co-curricular activities for every grade, including sports (gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, tennis and badminton), and various clubs including math, chess, robotics, Model UN, Pathfinders, yearbook, gymnastics and contemporary worship band  (SWAT).

HIGH SCHOOL

Our high school program has an academic focus as we prepare students for post secondary education. High school is supported by an academic adviser, who supports students in their course selection, graduation requirements and scholarship applications.

We provide students with many electives in high school, to help students discover their skills and pursue their interests.

You can explore our Secondary Course Selection Guide for an overview of the academic and elective courses offered for Grades 10-12.

High school students are exposed to a broad variety of leadership opportunities through our Leader in Me/7 Habits program. Students are encouraged to try lots of different leadership roles, and build their confidence in leading in the area of their strengths and passions.

Please explore our Secondary Course Selection Guide for an overview of the academic and elective courses offered for Grades 10-12.
